Jamaican kite

Every summer when the heat gets high I check my dill plants for swallowtail larvae. This year I watched as a tiger swallowtail carefully laid her eggs on the dill plants I grow in the front flower garden just for her. I checked the kids daily, and two grew to pupating size. Most years there are more like a dozen larvae. I hope this isn't a trend.
Swallowtails, particularly the Jamaican kite, inspired this piece. The Jamaican kite has only one known breeding area, and it is threatened by deforestation as well as collection. They are taken from the wild and sold to collectors for about $150 each.
approx. 10" x 7" (without stake) and available as either a wall hanging or staked garden ornament
Jamaican kite $25.00 (+ $10.00 large item shipping)
see the photo gallery for illustrations of color options and the range of style varieties the Jamaican kite illustrated here is silver
